“Dad, Mom, this is your room.”
When Wen Yu pointed at a dark brown door and said this to Xia Zhi and Wen Shihan, Xia Zhi was desperately using every brain cell she had to figure out a way to avoid going inside.
Before she could come up with a perfect solution, Wen Yu had already opened the door. Only after seeing the interior did Xia Zhi realize that everything in Wen Yi and Wen Le’s rooms was nothing in comparison, this bedroom was the pinnacle of luxury.
At the center of the bedroom stood a round, soft, cream colored bed. Every inch of the wooden floor was covered with plush carpeting, it would feel incredibly soft under bare feet. On the right side was an enormous walk in closet. Xia Zhi saw a row of high end custom suits, beside them hung countless luxurious dresses adorned with famous designer logos. Next to the dresses were rows of transparent glass cabinets filled with dazzling branded handbags, watches, and necklaces.
Most astonishing of all, diagonally across from the floor to ceiling windows stood a vertical transparent display cabinet. Each compartment was packed with countless Bearbrick collectible figures, it was said each one cost over a million. Xia Zhi carefully counted them, there were one hundred and five.
So much, so much money.
“Dad, Mom, you two rest, my brother and I will head downstairs first,” Wen Lun said, placing a hand on Wen Yu’s shoulder.
As Wen Lun hooked an arm around Wen Yu and prepared to leave, Xia Zhi quickly called out to stop them. Under their puzzled gazes, she asked, somewhat lacking confidence yet full of pleading, “Is there another room?”
This villa was so big, there should be another room for her to sleep in… right?
Wen Lun looked at Xia Zhi warily. “Mom, why are you asking that?”
Xia Zhi ran a hand through her hair. “I’ve lost my memory.”
Wen Lun nodded. “We know, the doctor already told us.”
Xia Zhi’s eyes lit up. She blinked rapidly at Wen Lun, hoping that this clever child would understand her meaning, but instead…
“Mom, is your eye twitching? Why are you blinking so much? Could it be a side effect from the car accident?” His expression suddenly turned tense. He took out his phone and said, “I’ll ask the doctor what’s going on.”
Xia Zhi, “…”
Seeing that Wen Lun was really about to call the doctor, Xia Zhi gritted her teeth and blurted out what was on her mind, “I want to stay in a room by myself.”
Earlier, sharing a hospital room with Wen Shihan had been unavoidable, and there had been two beds, so it was not too awkward. But now there was only one bed in this bedroom, did that mean she and Wen Shihan would have to sleep in the same bed?
Just imagining that scene made her feel so embarrassed her mind felt like it might explode.
Now it was Wen Lun’s turn to be stunned. “Mom, you want to abandon Dad?”
It was understandable that both parents had forgotten the four of them, but were they now going to abandon each other too?
Xia Zhi, “… ” Hey, she was not even close to Wen Shihan, how could that count as abandonment?
Wen Lun thought about the love story his mother had once told him. She said that before the age of twenty five, she had known Dad for a long time as his subordinate. It was only at twenty five that they officially became a couple. And at the hospital, Mom insisted she was still twenty five, which meant that in her eyes, Dad was now the most familiar stranger.
Thinking this through, Wen Lun broke out in a cold sweat.
No wonder Mom kept calling Dad “boss,” so that was the reason.
Having figured everything out, before Xia Zhi could react, Wen Lun dragged Wen Yu away at lightning speed, leaving behind a stunned Xia Zhi and a shout echoing through the villa:
“There are no more rooms, just stay with Dad!”
The atmosphere instantly became more awkward than ever. Before, the children had been around to ease things, but now that only the two of them remained, the silence was suffocating.
She suddenly felt a strong gaze fall on her, carefully examining her. There were only two people here, so it was obvious whose gaze it was.
Xia Zhi did not dare to look up. She clasped her hands nervously in front of her chest, like an employee who had made a serious mistake, waiting to be scolded by her superior.
But the expected reprimand never came. The gaze lifted, and the person in front of her walked away, steady footsteps gradually fading into the distance.
After a while, Xia Zhi finally gathered the courage to look up. Wen Shihan had already walked into the bedroom. He stood there with his head slightly raised, staring at the wall above the headboard, his expression unreadable.
Hanging there was a wedding photo. In it were Xia Zhi and Wen Shihan, standing side by side, hands clasped, leaning toward each other, their warm lips pressed tightly together.
Xia Zhi, “…”
The air froze.
She raised her hand and covered her eyes.
What on earth is this situation?
After a long time, she finally dared to lower her hand. Wen Shihan still stood in place with his hands behind his back, not moving at all. Clearly, the impact of this wedding photo on him was immense.
His gaze suddenly shifted toward her. Even though this was her first time seeing the photo as well, under his gaze, Xia Zhi inexplicably felt guilty.
“Boss, how about I take it down?”
Out of sight, out of mind.
Wen Shihan seemed to accept her suggestion. He stood there with composed elegance and gave a slight nod.
A small task like taking down a wedding photo was obviously not something a big boss like Wen Shihan would do. Xia Zhi immediately volunteered. In a few quick moves, she climbed onto the soft bed, stood on tiptoe, and stretched her arms toward the edge of the frame.
At 168 centimeters tall, Xia Zhi was not short, but in front of this wedding photo, she seemed extremely small. She could not even reach the edge. She could jump to reach it, but the frame was made of wood and very heavy. Even if she managed to grab it mid jump, it would likely come crashing down and knock her out.
Her gaze fell on the bedside table next to the bed. After a moment of thought, she climbed onto it using both hands and feet. The photo hung directly above the center of the bed, some distance from the table, so she had to lean her body sideways, her arm trembling as she tried to reach it.
“That’s enough,” Wen Shihan finally said, as if he could not bear to watch any longer.
“Hm?”
“Get down.”
“But I haven’t taken the wedding photo down yet.”
“Get down.”
Wen Shihan’s voice dropped, heavy and firm, like an order.
Xia Zhi’s body trembled, instinctively slipping into “employee mode.” She obediently climbed down from the bedside table.
In the next moment, a figure moved past her. When she looked again, Wen Shihan was already standing on the bed. He rose onto his toes, stretched out his arm, and effortlessly took down the wedding photo above the headboard.
Xia Zhi, “…”
Why was the difference between people in this world so huge?
She quickly stepped forward to take the wooden framed wedding photo from him. “Boss, I’ll put it away.”
After all, Wen Shihan was already fifty. Holding something this heavy, what if he strained his back?
Wen Shihan said nothing and let her take it.
The wooden frame was quite large. Xia Zhi scanned the spacious bedroom and finally fixed her gaze on a large black cabinet.
A black cabinet was perfect, it could hide everything.
Cheerfully, she opened it. But the moment she saw what was inside, her smile froze.
Inside was a full array of unspeakable costumes.
Bunny outfits, fox outfits, Christmas outfits, flight attendant uniforms, nurse uniforms…
Everything imaginable.
Xia Zhi’s eyes widened in disbelief. She was now forty five, and Wen Shihan was fifty. At their age, they still… played like this?
Her worldview took a severe hit.
She did not dare look any further. With a bang, she shut the cabinet door. Leaning against it, she gasped for breath, her face flushing with heat.
No wonder they were already this old, yet Wen Le and Wen Yi were only seven. These outfits probably had something to do with it…
