After closing the door, Mo Junlin led Qin Ruoyao to his chair and gently seated her in it.

Resting his hands on her shoulders, he said, “You’ll have to sit here and wait for me for a while. I’ll come back as soon as the meeting is over.”

Knowing he was worried she might get bored, Qin Ruoyao smiled.Full novel: Transmigrated into the CEO’s Cannon-Fodder Ex-Wife, I Chose to Take It Easy — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Go take care of your work. I can look after myself. I’ll wait for you, so hurry and get to your meeting.”

He Yang knocked on the door and entered, carrying a cup of coffee.

Seeing the president’s wife sitting in the president’s chair didn’t surprise him in the slightest. He was Mo Junlin’s junior from university, and the two were quite close.

Politely placing the coffee in front of Qin Ruoyao, he said, “Sister-in-law, please have some coffee. If you need anything, just let me know. Don’t be shy.”

Mo Junlin was pleased with his assistant’s attentiveness.

“This is my junior, He Yang,” he introduced. “If I’m not around and you need anything, just ask him.”

Qin Ruoyao smiled.

“Thank you. I’m fine for now, but I’ll let you know if I need anything.”

Seeing that she didn’t require anything else, Mo Junlin gave a few final instructions before leaving for the meeting with He Yang.

The office fell silent.

No one dared disturb her.

What she didn’t know was that everyone downstairs had already gone into a frenzy.

A secretary had secretly snapped a photo and posted it in the company group chat. The picture was blurry because it had been taken discreetly, but people could still make out the tall man as their president. As for the woman beside him, her identity remained unclear.

Then someone revealed the truth:

The president’s wife is here.

The entire group chat exploded.

Everyone wanted to catch a glimpse of the president’s mysterious wife.

None of this affected Qin Ruoyao.

She sat leisurely in Mo Junlin’s office, sipping coffee while admiring the view outside.

The riverside scenery was truly beautiful.

Just then, her phone rang.

“Of all the people in this world, I still met you…”

She picked up the call.

“Tell me this isn’t true! You actually got married?”

An excited female voice came through the speaker.

It was Yue Shilin, her only best friend.

They had grown up together, and even after Qin Ruoyao went abroad, they still talked on the phone every few days.

They were incredibly close.

Yue Shilin’s grandfather was an archaeology professor. Influenced by him, she had developed a passion for the field and was now a graduate student in archaeology.

As she liked to say:

“I just love beautiful antiques.”

She had just returned from a month-long archaeological excavation deep in the mountains.

There had been no signal whatsoever.

The moment she turned her phone back on, messages and missed calls flooded in.

Most of them were from Qin Ruoyao.

The last message read:

I got married.

Attached were photos of a wedding dress and a marriage certificate.

Yue Shilin had been utterly shocked.

She stared at the photos repeatedly, trying to figure out whether they had been edited.

Oh my God, this Photoshop job is incredible. Is it real or fake? We only lost contact for a month, and she got married?

Without even taking time to clean herself up, she immediately called.

“You’re finally back!” Qin Ruoyao exclaimed happily. “Which mountain were you buried in this time? If your mother hadn’t told me you were fine, I would’ve thought you’d gone missing.”

“Don’t change the subject. What exactly happened?” Yue Shilin interrupted.

“It’s nothing special. We met through a blind date, thought we got along well enough, and got married. That’s all.”

“A blind date?”

Yue Shilin nearly jumped on the spot.

“You’re a total beauty, and you still needed a blind date? And you had a flash marriage? Who is this guy? How well do you even know him? What if he’s a jerk? What if he’s abusive? Then what are you going to do?”

The more she talked, the more agitated she became.

Qin Ruoyao giggled.

She knew her friend was only worried about her.

“I’m not that unlucky. As for who he is, you might actually know him.”

“Huh? I know him?”

“Mo Junlin, from the Mo family.”

“What?!”

Yue Shilin shrieked.

“Mo Junlin? That Mo Junlin? The one from the wealthiest family in the city? The ultimate bachelor?”

Three questions in rapid succession.

Qin Ruoyao nodded.

“That’s right.”

“Ruoyao, you hit the jackpot!”

Yue Shilin practically squealed.

“You left the country so early that you wouldn’t know this, but Mo Junlin was a legend at our university. He was every girl’s prince charming!”

Qin Ruoyao tilted her head thoughtfully before realization dawned on her.

“Oh, you mean one of those ‘Four Musketeers’ you used to talk about?”

“Exactly! Mo Junlin, Shen Yuan, Wang Zhinan, and Liu Chenxi—they were known as the Four Musketeers of campus.”

“They started companies while they were still in university, and some of those companies even went public. Back then, so many girls dreamed of running into them and sparking a romance.”

“No one ever succeeded.”

“And yet somehow, you beat everyone to it.”

Yue Shilin sighed dramatically.

“It must be because you’re too beautiful. That’s why you managed to win him over.”

Then she lowered her voice conspiratorially.

“Hey, do you know Mo Junlin has an ex-girlfriend?”

“I heard they completely cut contact after breaking up. But people also said he never got over her and stayed single because of her.”

Then, in a teasing whisper, she added, “Come on, tell me—have you two slept together? What was it like?”

Qin Ruoyao listened quietly at first, but by the end of it, her face had turned bright red.

As expected of a devoted romance fan—she dared to ask anything.

As if I’d tell you what it was like, she thought.

“I know he had an ex-girlfriend. That’s all in the past.”

Quickly changing the subject, she asked, “Where are you now? When can we meet up?”

“I’m still in Yunnan Province. I’ll probably be here for another ten days or so. Once I get back, I’ll come find you.”

As Yue Shilin stretched lazily, the sound of her professor calling for everyone could be heard in the background.

“All right, then. You have to come see me when you’re back.”

“Definitely. I’ve got to go—my professor’s calling. Bye! Love you!”

She hung up in a hurry.

If she delayed any longer, her professor would start scolding her.

After finishing the call, Qin Ruoyao wondered how much longer Mo Junlin’s meeting would last.

She decided to take a walk around on her own.

When she stepped outside, she found everyone busy at work.

I worked myself to death in my previous life. This time, I really was reborn into a fortunate life.

Thank you, King of Hell.

“Madam, do you need anything? I can get it for you.”

One of the two female secretaries approached her.

Her surname was Xu.

Seeing the president’s wife come out of the office, Secretary Xu assumed she was looking for something.

“Oh, no. I’m just looking around. Please carry on with your work. I’ll ask if I need anything.”

“Of course, Madam. Feel free to look around.”

With a nod, Secretary Xu returned to her desk.

After sending Mo Junlin a message, Qin Ruoyao wandered over to the elevators.

Starting from the sixty-sixth floor, she randomly selected a lower level and stopped at the fifty-second floor.

As she stepped out, she saw a sign:

Media and Entertainment Division.

It sounded like something related to the entertainment industry.

Slowly walking farther in, she noticed a crowd gathered outside an office.

Then she heard an angry voice roar from inside.

“Can anyone here do their job? Go ask them if they can! It’s been days! What has the composition department been doing? You can’t even write one theme song?”

Curious, Qin Ruoyao moved closer.

Inside the office were two men.

One, around thirty years old, was visibly furious.

The other, in his forties, was trying to calm him down.

“Director Zhang,” the older man explained patiently, “your drama is a xianxia fantasy series. Those kinds of songs are difficult to write in the first place. You’re also asking for it on such short notice. We’ve already submitted so many songs, but you haven’t liked any of them. Can you give us a little more time?”

Director Zhang wasn’t unwilling to wait.

The problem was timing.

The series had originally been scheduled for the summer release season, but competition for that slot had been fierce, and he had failed to secure it.

As a result, they had moved the release up to the May holiday period instead.

Everything else was ready.

All they lacked was the theme song.

No wonder he was anxious.
