The cat walked over and pushed Dave with its paw, almost looking like it was trying to figure something out that it couldn’t quite process.
“Huh, I guess you’re not lying about that.
Though, how you came to have this ability that only faeries like me should be able to have is a mystery,” the cat remarked quietly.
“Hoshi, aren’t you supposed to stay with me?” the girl who the cat had come in with asked, looking around, clearly worried about Hoshi’s movements being seen.
Though, while she wasn’t speaking English, Dave could somehow tell what she was saying.
He wasn’t sure how, just that he could understand her words without even thinking about it.
“Relax, Himari, I’ll be back to you in a minute,” Hoshi replied, sounding almost as if Hoshi thought he was in charge.
Though, Dave was merely assuming Hoshi was male, but that was based only on how his voice sounded.
Himari didn’t look like she was happy with having Hoshi take longer, but she complied, though her eyes glancing occasionally towards the nurse showed how anxious she was for Hoshi to return to her.
“Alright, so since we can’t figure this out all right here, we’ll have to handle this later,” Hoshi said, but then glanced back at Himari for a moment.
“Uh, I’ll need to talk with her about when we’ll need to meet up before we head back to Japan, so give us a minute and we’ll figure this out.” Dave was about to say something but then closed his mouth at Hoshi’s words.
He wasn’t sure exactly what Hoshi meant, but it was clear that he wasn’t done talking with him and, for that matter, Hailey as well.
As Hoshi jumped back into Himari’s arms, Dave took a good look at her.
He could see she had black hair that came down to the middle of her back, she wore a simple button-up blouse and a pleated skirt that came to her knees.
She appeared to be around fourteen or fifteen, Dave was fairly sure about that.
She didn’t glance at him, but he had a feeling that if she did, her eyes wouldn’t be very friendly.
Not like how she looked at Hoshi at least.
Dave settled back down next to Hailey as they waited for Himari to finish her visit with whoever it was that she’d come to visit.
Though, the words Hoshi said about them returning to Japan made him wonder just how quickly they’d come over to this country to visit whoever was in this observation room.
No matter how hard Dave tried, he couldn’t make out what was being said, which told Dave that they were likely being quiet, though he wondered if maybe they were using some magical ability that he didn’t know about to shield their conversation.
Although, he supposed that he could just be a little paranoid about that, since he wasn’t sure if they were friends or foes right then.
Especially since his mind was still reeling from what the cat had said to him, about ‘affiliations’ and everything that single word entailed.
He couldn’t help but wonder if there were factions of magical girls, led by these faeries that were somehow competing for things.
Possibly recruiting ground or maybe something else.
Plus, why recruiting magical girls in this country was essentially a taboo, Dave couldn’t figure out.
All he could say was that he needed to learn more about all of this before he got any deeper into the world of magical girls.
His own survival could very well depend on it.
When Himari was leaving, Hoshi hopped back on Hailey’s bed and he looked straight at Dave.
“We’ll need both you and all the magical girls you’ve created to meet us at the café downtown at sixteenth and Wellington.
It’s by our hotel, so don’t read too much into how we know it’s location.” Dave nodded.
“Okay, though Hailey here is the only one I’ve created, so we can do that,” Dave said, though part of him wondered if maybe he was stepping over a line by agreeing to do this without consulting Hailey.
“Good.
Meet us there at two in the afternoon tomorrow,” Himari said, giving a scolding look at Hoshi.
“As long as Hailey gets released by then, we can do that,” Dave answered, hoping Hailey wasn’t going to be upset with him for essentially agreeing to this meeting without consulting her.
After all, it wasn’t like he could do anything to actually make her go.
All he could do was plead for her to go if she didn’t want to.
However, despite that feeling, Dave watched as the two left before turning to face Hailey.
“Sorry about not consulting you before agreeing to that,” Dave said, hoping this would make up for any problems he might have caused by doing that.
Hailey smiled at him, looking rather happy herself.
“Don’t worry about it.
I’d like to learn more as well if I can and I’m sure going will allow me to do just that.” Dave let out a breath of relief.
He hadn’t thought about what Hailey might be thinking, just that he doubted he’d have liked it if others had made plans that involved him without talking with him first about it.
“So, how quickly do you think it’ll be before I can get out of here?” Hailey asked, eyeing the nurse as she did so.
“We should wait until the doctors say you can leave rather than just leaving,” Dave answered, pretty sure that Hailey was wanting to skip waiting for the doctors part and just leave.
Though, while Dave couldn’t argue that waiting here was rather boring, especially when there wasn’t anything to do, he also had a feeling that if they didn’t wait for the doctors, then Hailey could find herself in more trouble with her father than she’d probably like.
Not that he really knew what her relationship with her father was like but he didn’t want something else to pop up that they could have prevented if they’d stayed just a little longer by letting the doctors keep an eye on her, as they were more likely to know what to look for when it came to other problems that could possibly come up.
At least health-wise.
