The Doctors were surprised to learn that Hailey had regained consciousness, but they didn’t ask so many questions, nor did they complain that Dave was there with Hailey.

Dave couldn’t help but wonder if they assumed that Hailey’s sister had brought him or something if they even noticed him at all.

After making sure that nothing was as bad as they had feared, they moved Hailey to another room, one with curtains shielding her from other patients who were also under observation.Full novel: Trapped as a Magical Girl’s Mascot — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Though, as far as Dave could tell, Hailey was the only one in the entire hospital that had any magical potential, which meant that Dave didn’t need to wonder if he should try to recruit other girls to try and become magical girls.

Part of him wished that he could ask the voice if he should focus on recruiting more, but at the same time, he was glad he didn’t have it speaking to him when he didn’t want it to.

Especially given how he couldn’t say that he was better off with having the ability to create magical girls over being homeless and working at trying to get out of that situation on his own.

“So, how many are there out creating magical girls?” Hailey quietly asked him when she woke up from a night’s sleep, impatient to leave, but resigned to remain until the doctors were done ‘observing’ her.

“I really don’t know.

Though, the voice made it clear that there weren’t any magical girls here, that they’re primarily in the east,” Dave said just as quietly.

He felt impatient for Hailey to leave as well.

That way he could see what he could learn himself about what she could do as a magical girl herself.

Dave was vaguely aware of the nurses talking to someone who as far as he could tell was here to visit one of the other patients.

It wasn’t anything that really concerned him, so he mostly ignored it.

Though, he did keep half an eye on them just in case they overheard either Hailey or him talking to the other.

“You never did tell me why you’re keeping the name ‘Dave’ when you could pick something much better than that,” Hailey remarked, almost like she was annoyed by that fact.

“I like it,” Dave protested, feeling a little offended that she thought he should change his name.

“Besides, what other name could a bird have?” “If you really want to know, there’s plenty.

Some you might like more than others, but I could always call you ‘birdbrain’ if you’d like.” “Absolutely not!

I might not know what kind of bird I am, but I’m not going to respond to ‘birdbrain’ for any reason.” “Just a joke.

No need to lose it over it,” Hailey remarked, stroking his head like she did the night before, which seemed to relax him.

Which at this moment made him feel mortified that she was aware how to calm him down.

Though, he took comfort in the fact that she was the only one who knew that he was actually alive and not a real stuffed animal.

“Besides, if I’m correct, you’re probably a house finch.” “Wait, a house finch?

What kind of bird is that!?” “No need to get so worked up over it.

It’s just a kind of bird.” Dave sighed, not sure if it was worth carrying on about, especially since he couldn’t see any actual benefit from doing so.

Besides, he noticed the visitor walking towards them.

Likely to visit the patient on the far side of them, but he still thought it’d be best to remain quiet.

However, as she got closer, he noticed what looked like a plush toy of her own, a cat to be specific, that was looking at him.

He wasn’t sure if he should say anything to Hailey about it, but at the same time he felt like the cat itself was aware of him looking at it.

It felt a little eerie until the girl started to pass them by and he saw the cat move its head to continue looking at him.

Then as the visitor almost passed them by, the cat leaped out of her arms and landed on Hailey’s bed, watching Dave closely, almost as if it expected Dave to either run or attack.

The visitor watched, just as surprised as Dave felt at the moment.

“What’s going on?” Hailey asked, sounding like she wasn’t sure she believed what she was seeing before her.

“What’re you doing here?

You should know that it’s forbidden to recruit in this country,” the cat told Dave.

“Um, the voice never said-” Dave started to say when the cat cut him off.

“What’re you talking about?

You know the rules.

What side are you affiliated with anyway?” Dave blinked.

He hadn’t a clue as to what the cat was talking about.

Affiliation?

With what?

He barely had become a plush toy the night before and the voice hadn’t explained any of this.

Though, he couldn’t help but wonder if maybe the voice had sensed this cat arriving or something and that’s why it declared his ‘tutorial’ complete when there was so much that it clearly hadn’t covered with him.

“Don’t you dare attack Dave,” Hailey told the cat quietly, but harshly.

“He’s my friend and I won’t have you harming him.” The cat turned to look at Hailey as if it couldn’t believe she was getting involved.

Though, Dave hoped it would at least give him some time to try and figure his way out of this situation.

“Stay out of this.

This is between us faeries, the creators of magical girls,” the cat said and if it was a real cat, Dave would have expected it to start hissing at him.

“Hey, I was only given this ability yesterday then turned into this stuffed animal and I have no idea what the hell is going on here,” Dave said, not caring to watch his language like he usually did.

“I don’t give a shit what rules you say I should or shouldn’t know.

All I know is that I don’t have a clue as to what the fuck you’re talking about.” “Should you really be using such language in front of your champion?” the cat asked, looking rather taken aback with Dave’s outburst.

Dave glanced at Hailey, who looked more intrigued than anything else.

Besides, he was pretty sure she’d heard worse than what he’d said just by walking down the street.

“Look, I wasn’t told about anything forbidden in this country, all I was told was how to create a magical girl and that they’re supposed to fight evil spirits or something.

That was it.

If you have more information for me to hear, I’m more than happy to hear what you have to say.”
