Hunting the God of Wealth
by 师者海海
Since the division of the Three Realms, the law of wealth conservation has persisted. Every 158 years, the four major factions of Heaven take turns sending someone to the mortal world, using it as a chessboard to test wealth's influence on humanity. Among the first nineteen Gods of Wealth, thirteen fell, and their sins still spread across the realms: endless wars in the north, inflation of yin virtue in Youzhou, rampant corruption in the Cycle of Reincarnation, and the rich getting richer while the poor get poorer in the mortal world. In Ye City's Peace Lane, a small grocery store owner—worldly, glib, soft-hearted—named Lu Xuanyu, by chance becomes the twentieth God of Wealth agent, a pawn manipulated by the four heavenly factions. His mission: hunt down the thirteen fallen Gods of Wealth. With each kill, the world improves a little. The war ghosts of ancient battlefields find peace, the Cycle of Reincarnation regains fairness, heavenly rules loosen, and a clear stream emerges in the mortal world. He fights from the ghost market of Youzhou to the heavenly archives, from ancient battlefields to the deepest hell, gathering allies along the way—the refugee leader Shi Hu, the talented woman Xie Daoyun, the Civil God of Wealth Bi Gan, the Martial God of Wealth Zhao Gongming, the faceless master of the ghost market, a young pixiu, and ten repentant former Gods of Wealth. A nobody rises from the streets, from pawn to player, ultimately overturning the three-thousand-year chessboard and rewriting the laws of heaven.
