Privacy Policy

Account details. Your email address and a password, which is stored only as a secure hash by our authentication provider. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.

Profile details you add. A username, your age (used for age-appropriate features and the one-time profile bonus), and a profile picture if you upload one.

Reading activity. Which novels and chapters you open and when, your bookmarks and reading progress. We use this to remember your place, show your reading stats and your monthly NovelRecap, and rank popular novels. If you read without an account, activity is linked to a random device identifier instead of a person.

Things you post. Ratings, comments and comment reports. Comments and ratings are public and show your username and profile picture.

Things you send us. Feedback and support messages, including the email address you give us to reply to, and novel requests.

Purchases. Your token balance, purchases, subscription status and plan, and a record of tokens earned and spent. Card and payment details are handled entirely by Stripe (website) or Google Play (Android app); we never see or store them.

Searches and feature requests. Search terms you enter, and the text you send to features such as recommendations, summaries, recaps and translation (see section 5).

Technical data.IP address, browser or device type, and pages requested, recorded in server and security logs. Your device's language setting is read on your device to offer a translation in your language; it is not stored.

To run the Service: keep you signed in, show and sync your library and progress, apply purchases and subscriptions, and provide the features you ask for. To make it better: understand which novels and features are used, fix bugs and plan improvements. To keep it safe: prevent fraud, abuse and spam, and enforce limits. To communicate with you (section 3). And to comply with the law.

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information.

Account emails — sign-up confirmation, password resets and similar — are sent when needed.

Monthly NovelRecap — a summary of your reading each month. It is on by default; turn it off with the one-click unsubscribe link in any recap email or the toggle on your profile.

News & offers — sent only if you opt in, and you can opt out at any time.

If you have linked a Discord account, we may send your yearly NovelRecap link there once a year.

Your username, profile picture, comments and ratings are visible to other readers. If you press Share on a NovelRecap, we create a link that anyone who has it can open; it shows your username and the reading summary in that recap. You can stop sharing from the recap at any time and the link stops working immediately. Shared recap pages are not listed in search engines.

Some novel pages also show reader reviews written on other websites. These are shown with the original reviewer's display name and a link to where they were written; they are not NovelCodex accounts.

We use these providers to run the Service. They process data only to provide their service to us.

• Supabase — accounts, sign-in and our database. Privacy policy.
• Cloudflare — content delivery and protection against attacks; it handles requests to the website. Privacy policy.
• OpenAI — novel recommendations and novel summaries. Your request wording and the relevant novel details are sent to OpenAI. Privacy policy.
• DeepSeek — chapter summaries, catch-up recaps and paid translation of raw novels. The chapter text involved is sent to DeepSeek. Privacy policy.
• Anthropic — catch-up recaps. Chapter summaries for the range you request are sent to Anthropic. Privacy policy.
• Google Translate — free chapter translation into other languages. The chapter text is sent to Google. Privacy policy.
• Resend — delivers our emails, so it receives your email address and the message. Privacy policy.
• Stripe — payments and subscriptions on the website. Privacy policy.
• Google Play Billing — purchases inside the Android app. Privacy policy.
• RevenueCat — confirms Android purchases and subscription status; it receives your NovelCodex account ID and the purchase details. Privacy policy.
• Google Analytics — website usage statistics, only after you accept cookies. Privacy policy.
• Google AdMob — ads in the Android app only, including the optional “watch an ad for tokens” videos. AdMob uses your device's advertising ID to show and measure ads; you can reset or delete that ID in your Android settings, and in the EEA/UK you are asked for consent before personalised ads are shown. How Google uses this data.
• Advertising on the website — the website may show ads from Google AdSense or other ad networks (see section 6).

Text-to-speech (“Listen”) uses your device's own voice engine; the chapter is not sent to us or anyone else to be read aloud.

• Strictly necessary — secure sign-in cookies that keep you logged in. These cannot be turned off.
• Preferences — your device's local storage remembers reader settings, recent novels and dismissed messages.
• Analytics — Google Analytics cookies, set only after you accept cookies.
• Advertising — when ads run on the website, ad networks such as Google may use cookies to show and measure ads, including ads based on your visits to other sites, only after you accept cookies.

On your first visit a banner lets you Accept or Declinenon-essential cookies. We use Google Consent Mode: if you decline, analytics and advertising cookies are not set. You can change your choice by clearing this site's data in your browser. You can also manage personalised Google ads at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Subscribers and readers who bought the ad-free upgrade do not see ads.

Account, profile, reading and purchase data is kept while your account exists. Purchase records may be kept longer where the law requires it (for example for tax and accounting). Server and security logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted. Support messages are kept as long as needed to help you.

You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account & security → Delete account, on the website or in the app. This permanently deletes your account, profile and profile picture, bookmarks, ratings, comments, unlocked chapters, shared recap links and token balance. Your reading history is anonymised — the link to you is removed — and kept only as anonymous counts of how often novels are read. Purchase records are kept where the law requires it. Instructions are also at novelcodex.org/delete-account. Deleting your account does not cancel a Google Play subscription — cancel that in the Play Store.

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EEA/UK or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, or object to or restrict how we use it. We do not sell personal information. To make a request, email [email protected]. We will not treat you differently for exercising these rights, and we respond within the time the law requires.

We use HTTPS everywhere, secure httpOnly sign-in cookies, rate limiting and access controls on our systems. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong password you don't use elsewhere.

The Service is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will show the date of the latest update at the top of this page and, for significant changes, tell registered users by email or a notice in the Service.
