Terms of Service

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You agree to use it lawfully and not to:

• break any law or anyone else's rights;
• scrape, copy at scale, overload, or reverse-engineer the Service or its API;
• get around rate limits, paywalls, sign-in or other security measures;
• abuse rewards, purchases or refunds, or use automation to earn tokens;
• post spam, harassment, hate, sexual content involving minors, or other illegal content;
• impersonate anyone.

You are responsible for your sign-in details and for activity on your account. Tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed it. We may suspend or close accounts that break these Terms. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account & security (see the Privacy Policy for what is deleted).

Reading is free. The first chapters of every novel are always free, and only the newest part of each novel is reserved for supporters, who can read it with a subscription or unlock chapters with tokens.

Tokens are a virtual currency for extras such as unlocking chapters, catch-up recaps, summaries, translation, recommendations and EPUB downloads. Tokens have no cash value, cannot be transferred, sold or exchanged for money, and are not refundable once used. Free tokens (for example the sign-up bonus or watching optional ads in the app) are limited and may change. Chapters you unlock with tokens stay unlocked for as long as your account exists.

We may change token prices, rewards and what features cost, with reasonable notice for significant changes.

On the website, purchases and subscriptions are processed by Stripe. In the Android app, they are processed by Google Play and are also subject to Google Play's terms.

Subscriptions renew automatically each month until cancelled. They include ad-free reading, access to all locked chapters while the subscription is active, and the extras of your plan. Access to locked chapters through a subscription ends when the subscription ends; chapters you unlocked with tokens remain yours.

Cancelling: website subscriptions — Profile → Manage subscription, or email [email protected]. Google Play subscriptions — in the Play Store under Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

Refunds: for website purchases, we refund token packs requested within 7 days if no tokens from that purchase have been used — contact [email protected]. Purchases made in the Android app are refunded through Google Play under its refund policy. Nothing in these Terms limits refund rights you have under the law where you live.

Donations on the website are voluntary, one-time payments that support the Service. They do not include tokens or other benefits and are not refundable except where required by law.

Free reading is supported by ads. In the Android app you can choose to watch short ads to earn a small number of tokens, up to a daily limit. Subscribers and readers who bought the ad-free upgrade do not see ads.

You can post comments and ratings, upload a profile picture, and send feedback ("your content"). You keep ownership of your content, and you give NovelCodex a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, display and distribute it as part of the Service. You are responsible for your content and promise it does not break the law or anyone's rights.

Please mark spoilers. Readers can report comments, and we may hide or remove content or restrict accounts that break these Terms, with or without notice. Comments and ratings are public.

Some novel pages show reader reviews from other websites, credited to their original authors and linked to their source. NovelCodex does not write or endorse them.

We are not responsible for content posted by other users, to the extent permitted by law (including under 47 U.S.C. § 230 in the United States).

If you share a NovelRecap, anyone with the link can view that recap, including your username. You can stop sharing at any time and the link stops working.

Summaries, recaps, recommendations and translations are generated automatically and may contain mistakes, miss details or reveal more than intended. Use them as a guide, not a replacement for the novel.

Novel text belongs to its authors and publishers; NovelCodex does not claim ownership of it. The Service's own design, code, features and branding belong to NovelCodex and may not be copied without permission.

If you believe content on NovelCodex infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with: (a) the copyrighted work; (b) the material on NovelCodex and its URL; (c) your contact details; (d) a statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorised; (e) a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorised to act for them; and (f) your signature. We remove infringing material promptly.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT ANY NOVEL OR CHAPTER WILL REMAIN AVAILABLE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOVELCODEX IS NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR US$10, WHICHEVER IS GREATER. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the AAA Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either of us may bring a claim in small-claims court. This does not take away consumer protections you have under the law where you live.

We may update these Terms as the Service changes. The date at the top shows the latest version; for significant changes we will notify registered users by email or a notice in the Service. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
