Silent Building

In a coastal northern city, an old district called Linwan. At its heart lies Yanyan Alley, a gray zone where migrant workers, local residents, and short-term tenants intermingle. The alley is dead and dirty by day, but bustling with food stalls at night. At its north end stands a red-brick apartment building built in 1994, Jinhua Apartments. Originally a dormitory for a food factory, it now houses a mix of old workers, debt-ridden tenants, and temporary lodgers. The building has no strict rules, only silent transactions: no prying, no interference, money flows, and mouths stay shut when trouble arises.
