Silent Undercurrents

A loud explosion at the gate of Fuxing City Government building ends the life of 65-year-old Zhao Yunshan, who detonated a homemade bomb. The official announcement claims he suffered from severe mental illness, and compensation is paid out that very night—everything handled properly, public opinion stable. No one notices that before the explosion, the old man recorded a video. This video falls into the hands of four strangers: Chen Lu, a journalist who ruined a young man's future four years ago by falsely reporting an incident of 'helping an elderly person and being extorted'; Gao Jin, the mechanical worker whose life she destroyed; Liu Xiaokun, an entrepreneur who has been secretly searching for his lifesaver; and a female prosecutor who insists on uncovering the truth. These four, who had no connection to each other, begin to piece together a puzzle spanning twenty years because of an old case unrelated to them. But as their investigation deepens, threats follow—their homes are ransacked, their cars are followed, witnesses are beaten, and they are told to 'mind their own business.' The deputy mayor, the police chief, and the head of a criminal syndicate all set up obstacles. And the old man who blew himself up, his last words were: 'If this video is seen by anyone, I should already be gone.' What they don't know is that a secret buried for twenty years is slowly surfacing from underground.
