In the late 22nd century, the era of full automation arrives, reducing 99% of humanity to 'bio-batteries' and 'organ culture vessels.' The ruling class, known as 'Immortals,' maintain their rule by continuously replacing the organs of the lower class. To corral humanity, the Immortals develop a 100% immersive virtual reality game called 'Eden.' The lower class lie in life-support pods in reality, while their consciousness works in Eden to earn 'survival points' to exchange for nutrient fluids and organ maintenance fees. Although human bodies are useless, some brains can trigger 'potential' in the virtual world—a creativity and intuition surpassing AI, seen by the Immortals as a scarce resource and the protagonist's only chance to defy fate.
