The Erased Soldier
by 橙橙橙醉不醒
Xu Yansheng's three carts of grain had not yet left the fort, and his death report was already stamped. A military clerk who returned from an ambush was suspected of abandoning the grain and fleeing; his military registration was revoked and his pay cut off. Yet another camp was still drawing grain using his military registration number. To stay alive, he began investigating a death notice that had been signed too early, and discovered that some "dead men" in the northern frontier had never left the battlefield. Qi Zhaoxue, daughter of a fallen military family, wanted to regain command authority; Ruan Qingfeng, leader of a border market caravan, wanted to protect his people's trade route; Shen Lingyi, a court inspector, wanted military orders to be bound by law. Each had their own goals, and they fought alongside and against Xu Yansheng, drawing closer to him through repeated life-and-death choices. From a grain-starved border fort to a fractured realm, Xu Yansheng must uncover who can write living people as dead, and more importantly, restore the names of the erased so they can receive grain, compensation, and a road home. — Description from novelcodex.org
