Embers of the Shattered Land
by 荒山月
In the final years of the old calendar, nuclear war consumed the world. The previous generation paid the price of an entire lifetime to send the hope of civilization into deep space, while they themselves stayed on the ground and burned to ash. At the dawn of the new era, those who crawled out of the ruins and shelters began to fight once more. Warlords contended, and after repeated annexations, seven powers finally stood side by side. Internal strife never ceased, foreign enemies pressed in from all sides, and the land grew ever more scarred. When foreign claws reach into the nation, when the legacy of the ancestors sees the light of day once more, national survival hangs by a thread. The ambitions of warlords, the helplessness of those in power, the sorrow of those at the bottom—everyone is forced to make a choice. Those in power bear the guilt of sending their compatriots to the battlefield; those at the bottom bear the hatred of parting from loved ones in life and death. The weapons left by the ancestors carry rules and cannot accommodate hatred. But there are no saints in this world, and hatred will ultimately ignite war once more, each conflagration grander than the last. What is passed down from generation to generation is not only fire and technology, but also unyielding spirit and faith. The wars the older generation did not finish, the next generation will continue, each holding their post, and no one retreats. At the moment of crisis, everyone gives up everything, only to keep the flame burning bright and the land unified. — Description from novelcodex.org
