A Small Household Girl of the Marketplace

by 堂溪客

Synopsis: Zhu Fusheng traveled through time. She wasn’t born into a noble family, nor did she become a maidservant or slave—instead, she became the youngest daughter of the second branch of the Zhu family, a modest household in the marketplace: Zhu Sanniang, only seven years old. Her grandfather was a xiucai, an old scholar who had held the title for most of his life. Her father was a tongsheng, a middle-aged man who had remained at the entry-level examination rank for half his lifetime. The family wasn’t wealthy, but they weren’t poor either. Without even opening her eyes, she felt her way to her twin brother Zhu Junsheng’s room, slapped him awake with two swats, and only after watching him pick up his book did she go to the kitchen to scoop water and begin washing her face and brushing her teeth. Being transported to ancient times wasn’t her choice. At only seven years old, there wasn’t much she could do. In a small household like theirs, the prospects were clearly dwindling and the future looked bleak. Her elder brother had a talent for studying but insisted on wasting it. So all she could do was study hard herself, while nudging her brother to strive upward along the way… — Description from novelcodex.org
