After a Laid-Back Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner Transmigrated into the Villain’s Substitute Lover

by 姜乌拉

Zhou Jueming, from a family of traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, is caught in an accident and transmigrates into a melodramatic showbiz novel about love and revenge. He becomes the story’s biggest “scumbag”: the man who shares the protagonist’s name, jokingly called the protagonist’s “budget version,” and the lapdog lover of the villain. He wakes up, still dazed, just as the original Zhou Jueming’s plot to frame the top star and male lead is exposed. The director wants to replace him, the male lead’s love interest wants to bury his career, his backer wants to terminate their contract, and fans across the entertainment world are flooding him with abuse and cyberbullying. On top of that, the original Zhou Jueming’s disastrous lifestyle has left him riddled with illness… Jiang Jie, his backer, sits across from him, looking cold and impatient as he slides over the last few documents. “You know how to get lost.” Taking the fall and weathering the online abuse: that’s the price of the deal. Zhou Jueming understands quickly. Once he calms down, he picks the option that looks most like a dead end: a low-budget variety show. “See you around.” He turns to leave, not noticing the surprise in Jiang Jie’s eyes. * * * Soon, the once-infamous “green tea” man of the entertainment world vanishes from public view. Two months later, a variety show called Hello, Doctor becomes a sensation. At its center is a refined traditional Chinese medicine doctor, understated in appearance but rich in knowledge. The show breaks out beyond its usual audience, and viewers can’t help finding the gentle, cool-headed doctor oddly familiar. Then someone digs up the real names of the non-celebrity participants… The fans: !!! How could that affected, picture-perfect white lotus possibly be our gentle, gentlemanly, ridiculously talented Doctor Zhou? Anti-fans soon descend in droves, determined to make sure he doesn’t seize the chance to cling to the top star again. But then someone discovers his name at the very top of the graduate admissions list for one of China’s leading universities of Chinese medicine. He makes the news, but only for playing in the mud outside the city. He fades from the entertainment world, and even from the show, while gradually making a name for himself in academia. Some people even switch from hating him to wanting to confess their feelings. But the son of the entertainment world’s biggest mogul, an arrogant, domineering CEO in every sense of the word, gets there first. He’s photographed climbing into Zhou’s car, clutching a blanket like a timid little wife. The media: What the hell is this comeback-from-the-bottom script? We have to milk this story for all it’s worth! * * * Two months after Jiang Jie and Zhou Jueming end their contract, they unexpectedly end up in bed together. Jiang Jie: “A disgusting, troublesome man. Just a self-destructive stand-in, and he still can’t get over me.” On the variety show, Zhou Jueming picks schizonepeta as a medicinal herb. Jiang Jie: “That green-tea bastard dares to ride on my name?!” A rumor spreads online that Zhou Jueming and the male lead’s love interest are involved. Jiang Jie: “…Zhou Jueming, you’d better take responsibility for me first!” — Description from novelcodex.org
