After Having Her Mind Read, She Became the Empress of Qin

by Frosty Tangerine Crab/霜柑糖蟹

The Fifth Gongzhu was born in an inauspicious month. On the day of her birth, meteors streaked across the heavens in countless numbers, and the people of that age regarded the omen with dread. Lying beneath a tree and basking in the sunlight, Ying Yang paid no heed to the palace attendants whispering among themselves. She merely rolled over in perfect contentment. You ancient people have no idea how wonderful life is when you don’t have to work yourself to death around the clock, and you can sleep until you wake up naturally! Ying Zheng, who happened to be passing by and overheard his youngest daughter’s thoughts: “…” Then, one fine morning, Ying Yang awoke to the news that she would henceforth be attending school. Ying Yang: “???” Fine. School it was, then. At least the food would be better than before. Ying Yang was perfectly satis— No, she wasn’t satisfied at all! My legs are going numb! Writing on bamboo slips is exhausting! After much deliberation, Ying Yang decided to approach her father, who seemed a reasonably decent sort, and apply for some research and development funding. What Ying Yang said aloud: “A-Fu, in a dream, your daughter was taught of a wondrous thing called paper. It is thin, light, and easily carried, and writing upon it is exceedingly convenient. Once it has been made, A-Fu will find the task of reviewing memorials far less burdensome.” What she thought: 【I can’t stand writing on these little wooden strips anymore! First, I’ll swindle some money out of him and worry about the rest later!】 Ying Zheng: “…Granted.” Once paper had been successfully produced, Qin made a staggering fortune selling it. Talented people from the various states flocked to Xianyang, and Qin’s national strength increased enormously. Overjoyed, Ying Zheng asked his daughter what reward she desired. What Ying Yang said aloud: “To relieve Fu Wang of his burdens is merely your daughter’s rightful duty. How could I possibly presume to claim merit before Junfu and ask for a reward?” What she thought: 【Dad, you’re the Dawang of Qin! Come on! If you’ve got money, give me money! If you’ve got land, give me land! I’m already bowing to you in my heart!】 Ying Zheng: “…Bestow upon her a thousand jin of gold and a noble title!” How could his daughter, at such a tender age, possess two such utterly different faces?! Ying Yang’s eyes shone. With money, she could finally feast on white rice, rich meat sauces, roast suckling pig, and roasted venison! Rubbing her hands together, Ying Yang ventured another question. “A-Fu, your daughter was also taught of another wondrous thing in her dreams. It is called a stirrup… And there is also woodblock printing…” In the beginning, all Ying Yang had wanted was to make her life a little more comfortable. But as she continued to enjoy her leisurely existence, she made a horrifying discovery— Why on earth had Qin’s conquest and unification of the Six States been brought forward by several years??? What the hell?! Who did this?! The kings and nobles of the Six States clung to one another and wept bitterly. Who are you trying to fool?! You’re the one who did it, damn you! The heavens are unjust! Why must every monstrous genius be born into that blasted Ying family?! The kings and nobles of Qin, meanwhile: What inauspicious omen? Our Fifth Gongzhu is clearly an auspicious blessing bestowed by Heaven itself! Author’s Notes — Please Read 1. This is a slow-burn, slice-of-life story. The female protagonist is four years old at the beginning, according to traditional nominal-age reckoning. 【In the pre-Qin period, the colloquial form of address for one’s father’s secondary wives was Ayi (阿姨). If this form of address bothers you, please proceed with caution. (:з」∠)】 2. The ages of certain historical figures, including Fusu, Lü Zhi, and Zhang Liang, have been altered for the purposes of this story. 3. The story may feature some unconventional romantic pairings. 4. There are three plus one male romantic interests. The officially recognized principal husband, with a formal marital status, is the grandson of Wang Jian—an original character created for this novel. The other three are Zhang Liang, Luan Bu, and Han Xin. Han Xin is approximately ten years younger than the female protagonist. The man with the most appearances in the story, however, is her father, Ying Zheng. T/N: Will have an unlocking schedule for coin chapters as soon as I finish uploading all of the chapters. I will unlock one a day until it is completely unlocked. As a side note some of these chapters are hella long. Like 10-12k words. (Part 1 – Fifth Gongzhu, Chapters 1-150, sits at 421k words not including authors or translators notes. O.O) Translation is complete, I’m in the process of uploading it all. Should finish in a day or two. The Character Notes, Relationship/Family Tree, Glossary and Historical Info in Appendices will also be posted at the beginning of the novel and will be free from the beginning. There is so much historical information and stuff I wanted to make available for context. Sooo yeah. Enjoy my rabbit hole of research about the Qin Kingdom…and Qin Shi Huang. — Description from novelcodex.org
