Falling at His Fingertips

Tang Luoqing is soft and sweet, with a delicate charm that makes her look like an innocent little white rabbit. Yet whenever she cries, a faint flush spreads across the corners of her eyes, like rouge crushed into fresh snow. Her boyfriend, Zhou Yanshen, loves this side of her. She is unbearably pure, yet irresistibly alluring. But Zhou Yanshen is a womanizer. One moment he tells Tang Luoqing that he loves her, and the next he walks out of a bar with another woman in his arms. Tang Luoqing stands in the rain for half an hour. Just as her tears begin to fall, a large umbrella shields her from the downpour. The person holding it is Zhou Jinbai, Zhou Yanshen’s older brother. Under the umbrella, Zhou Jinbai gently wipes away the tears at the corners of her eyes and tells her not to cry. He says he will go talk to Zhou Yanshen. But his idea of talking is to pin his worthless younger brother to the boxing ring and beat him relentlessly until he falls to his knees and begs for mercy. Tang Luoqing is hurt by Zhou Yanshen again and again, yet she softens her heart and forgives him every time. Until her birthday. Zhou Yanshen has his arm around another woman and casually tells her that it was only for fun and asks why she is making such a big deal out of it. He then reassures the woman on the phone that she is still the one he loves most. On the other end of the call, Tang Luoqing’s tears fall. As the rain pours down, Zhou Jinbai appears in front of her without her noticing when he arrived. His shirt is soaked through, clinging tightly to his body and outlining the sharp lines of his shoulders and back. He lowers his head and kisses away her tears. Tang Luoqing freezes. “Brother?” Zhou Jinbai slowly releases the fist he has been clenching. A faint reddish bruise still marks his knuckles from the fight half an hour earlier. His tall, lean figure bends toward her, completely enveloping Tang Luoqing in his burning shadow. “Don’t cry for him. He doesn’t deserve it.” His low voice is wrapped in the mist of the rain, his breath brushing against Tang Luoqing’s lips. “Tang Luoqing, look at me.” — Description from novelcodex.org
