Hogwarts: The Good Slytherin?
by AgentTwilight_6437
Hylan Prewett ran a fortune-telling stall on the same London corner for almost a year. The readings were fake, but the money was real, along with a strange system that rewarded every lie he got away with. Hermione Granger had been his closest friend since they were five. She thought he was the kindest boy she knew. She never realized that Hylan had learned to make kindness useful. When Professor McGonagall came to take Hermione to Hogwarts, she heard Hylan’s surname and stopped walking. The name belonged to two war heroes, brothers who died fighting Death Eaters. Their family was supposed to have ended with them. McGonagall looked at Hylan’s face and saw someone she thought was long dead. Every Prewett before him had been sorted into Gryffindor, without a single exception in three generations. The Sorting Hat took its time with Hylan. Then it called out a house no Prewett had ever worn. An orphan. A half-blood. Ambitious, charming, and impossible to read. Dumbledore had seen this exact combination once before. It hadn’t ended well. — Description from novelcodex.org
