I Inherited a Shrine in Kanagawa

One minute he’s crouched outside Fujisawa Station with a cigarette, trying to figure out why every sign around him is in Japanese. The next, a pretty girl in a high school uniform takes his hand, calls him “big brother”, and a bomb goes off. Time stops. The smoke stays hanging in the air. Two strangers walk out of it, a tired salaryman and a blond punk, and they’re here to finish off the girl he just met… The young man from China now lives as Kitahara Minakaze, a delinquent whose mother and stepfather died six months ago. All he’s inherited is a bad reputation and a stepsister he barely knows, Natsume Mio. But Mio isn’t an ordinary high school girl. She’s the shrine maiden of a small, forgotten shrine in the hills of Kanagawa, and in this Japan, shrines go to war. Behind the ordinary world, the Chosen fight for their gods. Big shrines devour small ones. Unaffiliated “stray dogs” are hunted down. The police, the Grand Shrine of Ise and the Imperial Family itself all pull at the strings. Something rotten also waits in the High Plain of Heaven. Minakaze has two things going for him: a sarcastic System that rewards him for surviving, and a Rage that burns his body past its limits at a cost he can’t undo. When the shrine’s god disappears and its old priest dies, Minakaze does the only thing that makes sense. He takes the shrine over himself. Protecting Mio means making enemies of detectives, shrine masters, government ministers and princesses. It also means facing gods that never learned to let go. He came to Japan with nothing. Now he has a shrine, a sister and a sword. How far will he go to keep them?
