Make Prime Minister Zhe Return My Reputation
by Unknown
After her rebirth, Luo Tang dissatisfied with her maternal family attempting to swallow her inheritance secretly slipped out of the manor to find a way to change her predicament. Caught in a heavy downpour, she encountered a woman. The woman had just emerged from a Hongmen banquet (a treacherous feast), reeking of alcohol, solitary, and seemingly having ingested a drug she shouldn’t have. At this critical juncture, Luo Tang brought her back to an inn. Intoxicated and feverish, the woman appeared both aloof and bewitching. Upholding the kind intention that “everyone is a woman,” Luo Tang accompanied her through that difficult night. That night, she diligently and conscientiously helped Prime Minister Zhe wipe down her body. Wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe, wipe… And then, absolutely nothing happened. Later, when Luo Tang explained the details of that night to others, specifically wiping her body strangely enough, no one believed their innocence. Lin Huaijin: “You bullied my student. You are utterly devoid of conscience.” Teacher Gu: “It was mutual. Do you like her?” Xiao Sese: “You two are truly shameless.” Luo Tang: “…… Why won’t you guys just believe me?” Prime Minister Zhe: “Luo Tang, you must return my reputation.” Gu Tang spent her entire life fighting against others, climbing from the very bottom all the way to the position of Prime Minister, only to ultimately end up imprisoned in a cell. In that cell, she spotted a journal that had been left there for years so long that the pages had turned yellow, dating back roughly a hundred years. The author’s handwriting was delicate. As Gu Tang read page after page, the script grew frantic, as though the writer was rushing against time or being driven to a desperate end. At the very beginning, the author wrote: “The abilities of our generation are capable of weathering any wind and rain without fear.” At the very end, she wrote: “The abilities of our generation are inept; we struggle to ever see the light of day.” Zhe Qing. Zhe as in broken, Qing as in pristine and clear. To remain unbent even if broken, staying utterly pristine. A hundred years ago, there was a figure of ill repute who betrayed her mentor, usurped power to wreck the country, and ultimately died beneath the executioner’s blade. What had she done? Gu Tang remembered that she had enacted numerous reforms and fought for a place for women in the world. Yet, in the end, she betrayed her mentor, a single fact that plunged her into eternal damnation. Gu Tang watched through the journal as a young maiden grew into her prime, stepping into the imperial court full of confidence alongside her mentor to display her talents, only to finally die by that very mentor’s hand. Zhe Qing had written: “The abilities of our generation cannot distinguish black from white or right from wrong. How truly foolish.” Before drawing her last breath, she finished reading the journal and placed it back where she found it. That journal acted like a ray of light, making her realize that her own life which felt like a pool of stagnant, muddy water, had suddenly been pierced by a brilliant beam of light. She died. Opening her eyes once more, she arrived a century in the past, becoming Luo Tang, a young maiden of the Luo family who was about to be stripped of her inheritance. Resolved to break away from her maternal family and establish her own household, she crossed paths with Zhe Qing. Zhe Qing held an umbrella for her, her translucent, pearly-white fingers gliding across Luo Tang’s field of vision as that ray of light shone into her life once again. Suddenly, she wondered if saving Zhe Qing was equivalent to saving the world itself. Zhe Qing was like a book, a classical ci poem filled with lingering charm. First she read the book, and then she looked at the person; the person and the book were one and the same both deeply captivating. Zhe Qing’s essence left her utterly intoxicated. — Description from novelcodex.org
