Synopsis: Zhou Shixu had been the quintessential “other people’s child” ever since he was little. He came from a privileged family, excelled academically, and was strikingly handsome. Yet despite all that, he was never surrounded by a crowd of admirers. All because his cold personality kept everyone at arm’s length. Anyone who tried to talk to him was brushed off in no more than three curt sentences. The only exception seemed to be Wen Qing, his childhood sweetheart who had grown up alongside him. Somehow, she always received different treatment from him. Though, according to Wen Qing, his supposed virtues were practically nonexistent. “He’s seriously such a pain. You have no idea how much I hate him.” Unfortunately, her complaints to her deskmate happened to be overheard by Zhou Shixu as he walked past. He looked over with his usual impassive expression. “She really is unpleasant.” More unfortunately, after Zhou Shixu had walked past, Wen Qing continued, “And he only says two more sentences to me than he does to everyone else. How unfair.” Already some distance away, Zhou Shixu couldn’t hear what she said next. He merely cast a slight sidelong glance at the crowd gathered around her, his voice no longer as even as before. “How many more friends does she plan on making?” The Gaokao was over. Zhou Shixu and Wen Qing had agreed long ago that they would apply to schools in City A. As expected, he was admitted to the best university in the city. On the very day the admission results came out, his family told him that Wen Qing hadn’t submitted a single university application. She had decided to study abroad instead. The cold expression on his face visibly darkened. Wen Qing had just opened her bedroom door when she found him standing there, looking distinctly displeased. Before she could react, Zhou Shixu had turned the tables and pinned her against the doorway. He buried his face in the hollow of her neck, his voice heavy with grievance. “So you hate me that much?” “What about me, then? What am I supposed to do?” “Why didn’t you tell me beforehand?” “Have you really gotten so sick of me?” Before Wen Qing could immediately deny it, she felt a patch of warm, dampness against the side of her neck. — Description from novelcodex.org
