The Dead Husbands Who Faked Their Deaths Have All Returned
by 一江星火
Synopsis: Sang Wu’s husband has gone missing. He went into the mountains to hunt and has been gone for more than a month. Everyone in town thinks he’s unlikely to have survived. And really, who could blame them? This is already Sang Wu’s third husband. Her first two husbands both died young. As a result, her reputation as a woman who “brings death to her husbands” has only grown more notorious around town. No matter how beautiful she is, with her delicate peach-blossom features and graceful figure, no one dares ask for her hand anymore. Her first husband was a hunter—tall, handsome, and highly skilled in martial arts. He doted on her endlessly. Aside from being somewhat insatiable in bed, he never once made her suffer. Unfortunately, they lived through a time of turmoil. He was conscripted and sent to war, and never made it home alive. Her second husband was a scholar, handsome as polished jade and exceptionally beautiful. He was even gentler and more considerate toward her. Every morning when they rose, he would personally do her brows and hair for her. The only problem was that he had far too many tricks at night. He would often soothe her in a gentle voice while refusing to stop. He died of illness, his life claimed by a bout of cold. Her third husband… Well, that one was an accident. He had originally been someone Sang Wu rescued and allowed to stay with her while he recovered from his injuries. But on the anniversary of her late husband’s death, she drank too much and mistook him for her dead husband. And proceeded to do every outrageous thing imaginable to him. The next morning, she woke to find his lean back and waist covered in scratches. When she met his accusing gaze, Sang Wu had no choice but to take responsibility. This husband was neither gentle nor considerate. His cooking was nearly inedible, his temperament cold as ice, and when it came to that sort of thing, he was taciturn, fierce, and utterly incapable of coaxing her. He even complained that she was too delicate and pampered. But Sang Wu was in the wrong. She had been the one to ruin his chastity first, so all she could do was silently endure it. Even when he bullied her too badly, she only dared secretly clutch her late husband’s memorial tablet and cry. Still, he was a capable laborer. With that strength of his, he could plow the fields just as well as her first husband. After something happened to him, Sang Wu found it difficult to survive alone in such a harsh world. She had no choice but to start thinking about finding another husband. Yet just as she was about to marry the new man she had found, the courtyard gate was pushed open. Her first husband had returned. … Later, Sang Wu discovered that her “dead” husbands had never actually died. And every single one of them had come back for her. — Description from novelcodex.org
