by 五朵雲
Synopsis: When Bai Chao becomes separated from his family and is on the verge of starving to death, someone rescues him. Grateful and perfectly willing, he agrees to marry his benefactor. But on their wedding night, his new husband tells him that their marriage is only for show. They will not consummate it, and once they have saved enough money, he will send Bai Chao home. Bai Chao tilted his head and thought it over before asking cautiously, “Then… will you give me food?” “I will! If I have one bite to eat, you’ll have one too. Even if I only have one bite, I’ll give it to you.” Luo Yang promised him earnestly. Bai Chao remembered what his father had once told him and nodded hard. His father had said that when choosing a husband, he should find someone tall, good-looking, and kind-hearted. Bai Chao thought that big man was exactly that sort of person. He didn’t expect Bai Chao to have children, and he was still willing to feed him. He really was a good person! After They Married Sitting contentedly in the rocking chair his grandpa had specially made for him, Bai Chao nodded with satisfaction, thoroughly approving of his own judgment. See? He was so clever. Of course he couldn’t possibly have chosen the wrong husband or the wrong in-laws! His grandpa was stingy, but he was willing to buy Bai Chao candy. His grandma had a nasty tongue, but she could march over to the home of anyone who bullied him and scold them so thoroughly that they wouldn’t even dare open their front door—just so Bai Chao could have the satisfaction of seeing them suffer. His father wasn’t very good with words, but his hands were skillful. He could weave toys for Bai Chao. His mother was gentle, but she held a grudge. She would quietly help him get even. Only Luo Yang, that big idiot, was a terrible person! In the dead of winter, Bai Chao wanted to crawl into the big man’s warm embrace to get warm. But he wouldn’t let him! He actually pushed Bai Chao away! — Description from novelcodex.org
