Golden Lotus Lamp
by 革明
Prince Taiyahan of the Peacock Kingdom, pursued by the witch queen Leli, escapes into the Ailao Mountain forest under the protection of guards Siyu and Zhaolingtun. They are rescued by Yiyang, daughter of forest lord Gefeng, along with Dinglan and Suxin. Taiyahan and Yiyang fall in love and borrow the seven-colored crystal, the Eye of the Forest, to return to the capital for revenge within seven days. However, the prince is betrayed by Gecen, the chief protector of Canglinju, and captured by Queen Leli, who imprisons him in a dungeon. Yiyang is sentenced to death by fire for violating the forest's iron law. With the help of Yixiang, Yiling, and Yangan, Taiyahan escapes prison and, after many trials, resurrects the fairy Yiyang. Together, they battle the witch Leli's demon soldiers and monsters, defeat the Western Fleet, and protect the Peacock and Elephant Kingdoms. Taiyahan renounces the throne to return to the forest in search of Yiyang but is ambushed and killed by Gecen's arrows. Yiyang commits suicide by Lake Yan, and from then on, the lakeside is covered with lover's grass that sings softly when in bloom.
