In the early years of the Republic of China (1912-1920s), warlords carved up the land, leaving the people destitute. Western ideas flooded in, challenging traditional culture, while paranormal events erupted frequently, with demons and monsters running rampant. Renjia Town in Guangdong, nestled against the vast Ten Thousand Mountains and fronting a tributary of the Pearl River, is a classic ancient southern town. With a population of about three thousand, its livelihood relies on farming and trade, surrounded by scattered villages.
