Chongzhen: Crisis and Bloodshed
by 火精
After thoroughly studying history, I realize the terror of human nature and history. Qin Shi Huang and Emperor Yang of Sui made great contributions to China's progress, yet they have been cursed for millennia. Some emperors, content with partial peace, knelt and paid tribute, betraying their own people without much infamy. Others imposed literary inquisitions and slaughtered millions, like the Ten Days of Yangzhou and the Three Massacres of Jiading. What about the massacres in Shu and Guanzhong, which history dares not record? The author is from a city in Shaanxi; its population dropped from over 300,000 to less than 30,000, yet history dares not record it, only county annals show a sudden drop. Some still sing praises, even calling such emperors 'greatest of all time.' Who dares to discuss the truth of these millennia-old events?
