King of the North

Gu Changyuan, son of a disgraced minister, is exiled to a death trap in the northern frontier: a crumbling fortress with fewer than a hundred soldiers, only three days of rations, and barbarians about to attack. Everyone expects him to die, but from this ruined fort, he recruits veterans, trains wounded soldiers, takes in refugees, defeats barbarian cavalry, and eventually becomes king of the north.
