Night Shift at the Funeral Home
by 初一见月
Lin Ye inherits a funeral home on the verge of bankruptcy. By day, it is desolate and shabby, with almost no visitors. But at midnight, everything changes. The lights turn on automatically, and 'guests' begin to appear at the door. Some wear ancient armor, some are draped in Daoist robes, some come from future ruins, and others claim to be emperors and generals long lost to history. Qin Shi Huang says he wants to exchange for his unfinished empire. Xiang Yu says he refuses to die at the Wujiang River. Li Bai, drunk, hands over a scroll of poetry, saying he would trade a sword for true immortality. And deeper still, there are beings never recorded in history: sword immortals from the cultivation world, kings of the demon race, remnants of mechanical civilizations, and even ancient gods long fallen from myth. They come not to be buried, but to make a final transaction. In the funeral hall, there is no boundary between life and death. Only a price. Some trade memories for power, some trade their fate for a future, some trade the coordinates of a world for a chance to start over. Lin Ye gradually discovers that these 'dead' are not merely the deceased. They come from different timelines, different worlds, and even different eras of civilization.
