The Last Magistrate of Darning
by 若须弥
Chen Mu transmigrates and becomes a ninth-rank county magistrate in Dingbei County of Darning. On his first day, the county magistrate flees, the granary is empty, and Northern Rong cavalry are outside the city. With 3,200 people and only seven days of food, everyone says to wait for death. But Chen Mu refuses. He forges weapons from corpses into farming tools, leads the people to reclaim land, build walls, dig canals, and smelt iron. A thousand Northern Rong soldiers fail to take the city, then three thousand also fail. But greater storms loom: Darning falls, Western Qin's iron cavalry advances, and heroes vie for power. Standing on the city wall, watching the myriad lights, Chen Mu declares, 'Since no one governs us, we will govern this world ourselves.' Starting with 3,000 people and seven days of food, he must carve a path to survival in this cannibalistic era.
