Notebook No. 9

by 娣神

An unsigned letter leads SWAT instructor Lu Jing to a deserted village erased from the map. At the bottom of a well, he finds Japanese experimental records from 1939, and on the same night encounters something that should not exist—sluggish mutants with blackened blood. He barely escapes, but a black pattern that cannot be erased remains on his left arm, and the hexagonal particles in the blood sample are completely identical to the investigation notes of forensic examiner Li Zhiwei's deceased father. The two follow the circular snake totem, tracking from Xiumen Village to the underground warehouse in Huizhao Town, and then to the secret passage deep in Kongqiang Village; all routes ultimately point to the same coordinate—"Babel Tower" Island. Lu Jing finds the remains and notebook of his grandfather Lu Chengshan, who was translator number "09" and was executed for witnessing too much. Even more crushing is that the entire network is still operating to this day; the person who established and maintained it is named Lu Huaizhong, Lu Chengshan's nephew, and eighty years later everything still controls the passage from Yunyin Mountain to the island. Lu Jing returns to the city with the testimony of the mountain spirit, the transport list from Xiumen Village, and the family letters from Huizhao Town; the evidence is enough to leverage the international level, and a joint expedition is officially approved. The next stop is that island at sea, where there are dormant living people, buried evidence of crimes, and the last unbroken link in this eighty-year chain. — Description from novelcodex.org
