The Xiguan Scale
by 一只大森森
I collect old goods in Xiguan and came across an old jade bracelet. The buyer said: Sister, your bracelet is unclean; there's a girl in a red dress squatting on it. I looked up—and there she really was, squatting. My grandmother was the last spirit medium in Xiguan. After she died, she left me a scale. Weigh old objects, and you can see the unfinished words of the dead. Weigh ghosts, and you shorten your own lifespan. You must not weigh yourself—but I did anyway. What the scale revealed was not my time of death, but my grandmother's. This is a story about morning tea, paper effigies, the Pearl River water, and words left unsaid. Not scary, just a bit chilly. — Description from novelcodex.org
