The Spells I Made Up Actually Work
by 泛舟沧海
Lin Ye is unemployed, brokenhearted, and so poor that all he can afford is an unusually cheap apartment. A lifelong daydreamer, he dabbles in half-baked Taoist arts learned online—drawing talismans, setting up arrays, invoking ancestral masters—treating it all as mere self-comfort. Until he moves into that old building, he discovers that the "fantasies" in his eyes are all real. Outside his door stands a woman who died years ago, in the hallway lives a child who refuses to leave, and in his room there's an extra female ghost who binge-watches dramas every day. Lin Ye's talismans are fake, his peachwood charms are cheap street-stall goods, and the incantations he chants are made up on the spot. But when fierce ghosts close in and there's nowhere left to retreat, the spells he bluffs out actually take effect. He thinks he just wants to survive. But the ghosts and monsters begin to believe he's truly a hidden master. Later, Lin Ye finally realizes that the rules he speaks and the spells he imagines seem to be able to interfere with reality at certain times. The problem is, every time a spell works, it might send him to the hospital first. "I was just kidding—why did you all take it seriously?" — Description from novelcodex.org
