The Strange Cases of a Small Security Guard
by 秋天意浓
I'm Chen Shuang, and along with two brothers, I work as a security guard in an upscale residential compound backed by mountains. The compound has both standalone villas and high-rise buildings, and it sits right next to a forest on the back hill. Nights here are especially quiet, and strange incidents keep piling up one after another. First, we caught a yellow weasel squatting on the rooftop terrace of a high-rise, worshipping the moon, with a stolen woman's silk underwear pulled over its head—and it had also made off with loose change and all sorts of small odds and ends. Later, a netizen we'd met online, "My Heart Soars," came to us saying someone had put a curse on him. He carried a bizarre seven-colored bottle that held something terrifying inside, and he constantly felt like something was crawling under his eyelids. Everyone else said this was a case of evil spirits, but my brothers and I gradually discovered that behind many of these seemingly supernatural incidents, people were setting up tricks and pretending to be ghosts and gods. Through long nights in the guard booth, we watch over this compound, uncovering one by one the truth hidden behind these folk oddities. — Description from novelcodex.org
