Sleep Early
by 关尼尼
Mu Bai was a pitiful, sleep-deprived ghost. The kind that could only eat by pressing down on humans at night. His last target? A broke Artist fresh out of college who somehow managed to outlast a ghost. Three months without food, Mu Bai was ready to fade away. So he switched targets. His new one was the Artist’s uncle, a high-powered CEO. Calm, disciplined, went to bed on time and woke up early every day. A dream target!Overjoyed, Mu Bai began pressing down on him nightly. But he was considerate too, if he pressed too long, the CEO might oversleep, so Mu Bai limited himself to just half the night. Life was good. Mu Bai was well-fed, the CEO well-rested. Perfect harmony. And every night, the CEO would open his eyes to see a tiny ghost sprawled on his chest, chanting softly: “Press me, press me, press me~” One night, the CEO rolled over mid-sleep. The little ghost tumbled off with a dazed look. The CEO: “…” He thought that this ghost isn’t very strong. So he bought a bigger bed. But then the ghost started appearing less and less. Until one day, he disappeared completely. No matter how early the CEO went to bed, how long he slept, even when he burned incense, nothing!! The ghost wouldn’t come. Desperate, the CEO spent a fortune to hire a celestial master. When they finally captured the little ghost, the CEO’s first words were: “Who else have you been pressing on?” The second: “Wild flowers smell sweeter than home-grown ones, don’t they?” Mu Bai, dangling by the neck: “???” — Description from novelcodex.org
